Why Go?

Why Engage Africa’s Unreached Peoples?

Why pray, research, send messengers and establish a church among them?

The airline ticket was in my hand. The passport and visa were ready. The projected budget for the trip was established and the funds available. The schedule was in place for field research among five of Africa’s Unreached Peoples.

The question arose and demanded an answer, “Why are you going? It’s a big expenditure of time and money; it means separation from family and the usual comforts. Is it really necessary to personally contact these unreached people groups in order to present their spiritual need to the Christian community? Will this research trip really affect their eternal destiny?”

As I processed this question and all of its implications, the answer that exploded in my mind and heart was a resounding “Yes!” The answer, based on Scripture, was very clear.

The Great Commission

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations….” (Matthew 28:19).

“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15).

“Repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations” (Luke 24:47).

“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you” (John 20:21).

“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

(Acts 1:8).

“’My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work’” (John 4:34).

All Nations the Focus

“I will send some…to the nations…They will proclaim my glory among the nations” (Isaiah 66:19).

“And they sang a new song: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation’” (Revelation 5:9).

“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9).

“All nations will come and worship before you” (Revelation 15:4).

Reality of an Eternal Hell

“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16).

“But the cowardly…their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

Bring Back the King

“You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming” (2 Peter 3:11,12).

Share the Good News

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

These verses gave me a sense of destiny and worth. My heart was filled with gratitude to God for the privilege of being an instrument in His hand.
