People Groups Without a Gospel Witness

An unengaged people group has no known believers and no known entity attempting to engage them with the gospel. Great Commission believers understand that this condition must be corrected. The question is: How do we engage them?

The word engage means “to attract and to hold tightly, to become involved, to bind by a pledge or promise.” Engagement is a necessary step toward marriage. A man and a woman are attracted to one another, interact and become convinced that they want to share their lives. In the presence of witnesses they make a binding pledge to live together until death should separate them.

Engaging an unengaged people group calls for high commitment, much like the commitment needed to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30).

With all your heart means with deep emotion and feeling for the people group. I remember when I asked my wife to marry me. It was an emotional experience. My heart was beating so hard, we could both hear it pounding. Together we laughed and then she said, "Yes!" In a similar way, a God-given love for a people group will move a believer toward a pledge to share Christ with them.

With all your soul speaks of that part of a human being made in the image of God. With the soul we communicate with our Creator in prayer. Engagement means that prayer for a people group becomes a part of the believer's lifestyle as he continually presents their spiritual needs to God.

With all your mind means that the believer's mind is filled with thoughts about the people group. He is consumed with their desperate need and searches to find out more about them. He reads books, surfs the Internet, visits blogs and interacts personally with them. His mind is continually focused on these beautiful people.

With all your strength indicates a release of one's physical, mental and moral power to introduce Jesus Christ to the unengaged group.

"With God we will gain the victory" (Psalm 60:12), and one day we will stand before the throne of God with our beloved people group!
